[UPDATE] This video was filmed today at Silverstone. It's vertical but there's nothing to see anyway and there's something that could potentially be the first soundbite of the Honda F1 engine idling:

This is the sound footage Honda released quite a while ago about the sound of the engine (first ahead of Mercedes, Ferrari or Renault!)

The greatest partnership in motorsports history is coming back next year.

Also, it legitimately sounds like a lawn care appliance.

Why?

McLaren is currently using the best engine in the field of cars.

News Flash: It isn't 1991.

Last year Mercedes wasn't the best. Now it is. I didn't say Honda will be better.

I'm starting to feel this has been the most senseless conversation this week so far and I teach in class.

You never know! This looks like a MP4-29 chassis to me.

It's a development chassis and it's just normal that it wears the current livery. All showcars doing demo runs are made to look like the surrent-gen cars as well for the illusion.

The engine in the second video sounds pretty good on the dyno. Now, let's put a fuel flow limiter on it, and make it run a race distance at 11K rpm.

Sorry, I just don't like the new power units. Capable of so much, yet strangled.

I think it's a great achievement that they do a season with five units (5!). In race distance only that's 1200km per unit on average. But it should be close to 3000 or even more given FP1, FP2, FP3 and qualifying, plus in-season testing.

Compare it with the conditions 10 and some years ago when engines blew up during their one-off 300km-races.

Why are they on inters?

It's not a proper test, it's just filming. The rules somewhere say they have to use such tyres in such case if I'm right.

I saw the distances allowed for filming and that they had the two reserve drivers in, but missed any stipulation on tire compound. Interesting that they would be limited to inters if true. I suppose I can understand a limit to one tire compound, but how much can they be expected to learn from limited filming runs on the hard compound v. an inter? Or for that matter, why not make them run a full wet in the dry?

Just thinking out loud.

More than from nothing. That's why they use the pre-season development chassis that is wired with all sorts of gizmos.

I get that there is learning from any running time. My line of thinking is more along the what is the delta between running an inter versus running a hard. Would you really learn more on a hard, or a wet, than an inter? It just seems like an odd choice of tire, particularly on a dry day.

Filming may benefit from the lower grip given the low distance allowed, but the big blue sidewall looks odd to most people because we rarely see this compound used, imo.

IIRC there is a ruling that demo runs are not allowed to run slicks
